Man with the Mattress

As I was driving on the highway home in the rain and the hail, I noticed a man stuck between the N3N and N3S. How did he get to the middle with his plastic-covered, double mattress, I don’t know. Why he chose to take a dangerous shortcut instead of the longer, safer way, I don’t know. All I know was that in 2 hours’ time, I will already be home, dry and safe, and in 2 hours’ time, he will still be stuck on the highway, in the rain. He could only get home to his family when traffic died down, or everyone on the highway decided to stop for him.

I thought to myself: this is NOT Africa, this is SOUTH AFRICA. We are a country of hope, we walk in the history of greatness - Nelson Mandela; we are active citizens who are capable of helping others in need. Man with the Mattress, I’m sorry I was not able to help you today, but one day I will meet you, and help you and your family, but today I need to be successful for you.
